Perfect Sense

Have you ever felt when you listen to a song like "this is it;" like this makes perfect sense; you kind of bob your head a little and go "yeaa..that's it man."I just listened to a song where everything about it made perfect sense. It was the perfect song for that exact moment in time. I feel this way everyday when I hear it. The thing is...I don't know any of the words. I can really only make out a couple of them. But this song just makes perfect sense.

This is the best link I could find to the song:

Hitler never saw it coming

I found this video while searching for information about anti-fascism.

Now that I've got your attention. I can't believe how hard it is to find a connection between anti-fascism and christianity. I think they are synonymous, but maybe I'm wrong.

"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." -Ephesians 6:12 NIV

Conscientious Objector by Edna St. Vincent Millay

I shall die, but
that is all that I shall do for Death.
I hear him leading his horse out of the stall;
I hear the clatter on the barn-floor.
He is in haste; he has business in Cuba,
business in the Balkans, many calls to make this morning.
But I will not hold the bridle
while he clinches the girth.
And he may mount by himself:
I will not give him a leg up.

Though he flick my shoulders with his whip,
I will not tell him which way the fox ran.
With his hoof on my breast, I will not tell him where
the black boy hides in the swamp.
I shall die, but that is all that I shall do for Death;
I am not on his pay-roll.

I will not tell him the whereabout of my friends
nor of my enemies either.
Though he promise me much,
I will not map him the route to any man’s door.
Am I a spy in the land of the living,
that I should deliver men to Death?
Brother, the password and the plans of our city
are safe with me; never through me Shall you be overcome.

Nothing to do with Bob Dylan

Please allow me to sound pretentious for just a moment. My excuse is that I am stealing this post from another pretentious blog.

Start the pretention:
Now I've never really been partial to Avedon. It may be odd to you because he photographed many of the figures from a time which I admire. So you may ask, why are you then posting a picture by Mr. Richard Avedon? And I will reply to you, because it is a wonderful picture of Bob Dylan and one of those can never be denied.

Here is the original post from elevenmagazine.wordpress.com:

Richard Avedon shooting Bob Dylan. When? I don’t know. Why? Not a clue. Does it matter? No.

Blink-182 coming to Darien Lake!

So tickets go on sale Saturday for Blink-182. I always regretted not seeing Blink before they broke up, but now they are back together and are sure to be playing some of that crappy music they were making just before they disbanded. Regardless, I hope I can buy tickets Saturday. and you should too.

Oh Canada...

After reading many forum posts by Canadiens calling the actions of the Stampede racist against French-Canadiens, Rob Clark, the owner of the Rhinos, posted the following picture on the forum. The Ultras were holding this banner at the match.

btw, the thing the Canucks were pissed about was the Stampede "ribbiting." Because a frog is apparently a derogatory term for a French-Canadien.

Why is it so hard to include anti-war in pro-life?

"The problems arise, of course, in her treatment of reproductive issues. Ruether, following Catholic ethicist Christine Gudorf, rightly points out the contradictions involved in the Church’s “pro-life” positions on various issues in that it takes an absolutist natural law ethical approach on abortion while taking what Ruether and Gudorf consider a consequentialist approach on issues such as war. These are indeed real contradictions felt by anyone who surveys the various ecclesial statements on “life issues” with any sort of seriousness. The problem with Ruether’s critique is that she situates it within the unexamined assumption that because this contradiction is real, the Church is therefore wrong on abortion and needs to get its act together so to speak. It does not seem to occur to her that 1) this is indeed an assumption that at least needs to be argued lest she settle for preaching to the choir, or 2) that perhaps a Catholic that is deeply passionate about the full range of life issues could come to the opposite conclusion: the Church needs to straighten up its position on war."
